All BJA clubs have a duty of care for the sport and those who take part in it. A club must do everything within its power to reduce or eliminate loss, injury or damage to others and it may be held legally liable if it fails to do so.
This policy protects the club and its committee against the cost of a claim made against you following loss, damage or injury to someone else or their property. Cover is provided up to a maximum limit of £20m.
Directors' & Officers' insurance is included within the Sport, Recreation and Leisure Liability covers for clubs.
All club committee members have a personal liability for any claim that is made against the club for breach of duty.
• Mismanagement of the club finances
• Breach of fire safety regulations
• Corporate manslaughter.
Cover is provided specifically to protect club officials and committee members. Click here for the policy summary.
This covers the club, or club commitee, if it is held liable for an injury that an employee suffers during the course of their employment. It is important to note that you do not have to pay a wage to someone for them to be classed as an employee.
If you control where and when a person works or volunteers, what they do or when the take breaks you are likely to have an employer/employee relationship in law. The policy covers injuries to employees and volunteers and the maximum limit of cover is £10m. This cover is a legal requirement.
As such the BJA have arranged for Employers Liability cover to be provided to all BJA affiliated clubs.
Cover is automatically provided for all affiliated clubs who have registered for cover with the association. The Assets insurance provides cover for up to £7,500 of equipment including judo mats, scoring equipment and trophies.
It is important that cover is arranged for all your equipment, so if you do not feel that £7,500 is sufficient to protect all your assets please contact Howden to discuss your needs.
We also recommend clubs have Legal Expenses and Fidelity Guarantee cover, click here to find out more.
